In 1834, Kagaya, Kyu-bei of glasswork store
in Edo* made the glassware decorated with cutting into their
surface using diamond sand. It is said this is the origin of
the cut glass, Edokiriko.
*Edo: The old name of Capital-Tokyo. At beginning
of 17th c., here was made a large castle by shogun Tokugawa,
Ieyasu.
*Edo-period: 265years in which were continuing
years from the beginning of shogunate by, Tokugawa, Ieyasu to
the end by Tokugawa, Yoshinobu (the 15th Tokugawa, shogun). (1603-1868)
Since then, for over hundred-fifty (150) years,
we, Japanese have been fascinate with the Edokiriko's beauty.
Not only Japanese has recognized the beauty. It is said that
Commondore Perry who visited Uraga in 1853 was impressed with
the splendid technique. From this episode, we can guess Edokiriko's
artistic value was recognized over the frontier.
We, HANASHO have devised modern original delicate
design with keeping traditional design and have pursue harmony
of Edokiriko's brilliancy and cool brightness. Many people notice
our Edokiriko's beauty.
And also, we have politely engraved glasses
with designs and finished by burnishing by the hands with giving
our whole mind to the work. To keep the traditional technique
is important to draw out the natural brilliancy of Edokiriko.
